“Atacama to Patagonia” 10 Night Package | August 29 - September 8 - SOLD OUT

Saturday, August 29 – Please be sure to plan your flight for arrival at the Santiago International Airport (SCL) this morning before 10 AM. We will leave from SCL on a 12:15 PM flight to Calama El Loa Airport (CJC).  Enjoy relaxation time this afternoon after checking into the Hotel Terrantai Lodge.  We will gather this evening for a Welcome Dinner and briefing. (Dinner included)

Sunday, August 30 - San Pedro de Atacama is famously known for its amazing landscapes and its rich national archaeological site. This is why, in order to understand the historical roots of this region, a cultural tour is a must. We will start at the Tulor Village that represents the first settlement of the Licanantay Culture (People of this Earth), which will help us understand the rough life on the desert. Next, we will visit the Pukará de Quitor, which marked a peak of the Licanantay community around 1100 AD and almost the end of the culture in 1540 AD with the battle against the Spanish conquerors.

Leaving San Pedro de Atacama we will next visit the Salt Crystal Mountain Range to experience “Dinosaur Valley”, “Death Valley”, “Moon Valley”, as well as stunning views of the areas mountain range and volcanoes. For the adventurers in the group, we will have the optional opportunity to ski down the local dunes on sandboards. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Monday, August 31 - Today, we will enjoy the Atacama Salt Flat and part of Los Flamencos National Reserve. Here, at the Chaxa Lagoon, we will enjoy a variety of birdlife, mainly pink flamingos, which are the main attraction at the salt flats!

We will also visit the Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons located at 4,200 meters (13,779 feet) above sea level on the foothills of the volcanoes of the Andes Mountain Range under the same names. Hiking the trails, we will enjoy nature in a breathtaking landscape full of contrasts, such as the deep blue clear sky, colorful vegetation and wildlife.

Lastly, we will visit the town of Toconao with its bell tower and Saint Luke’s Church, both of them national monuments since 1951. Here we will be able to understand the mixture between local culture and religion as well as handicraft products made out of pumice stone, cactus wood, alpaca and llama wool. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Tuesday, September 1 - Today is an early day! This morning we will drive north and after approximately 90 minutes, we will reach one of the most important geothermal fields in the Southern Hemisphere and one the highest in the world located (4,300 M). This geothermal field is known as the “Geysers del Tatio”. Moreover, we will arrange for a dip in these hot springs if you are inclined! This forty-minute stop will allow you to rest and enjoy one of nature’s natural healing springs.

While returning to San Pedro de Atacama, you may be able to spot some friends like the camelids Vicuñas, foxes and birds. It will be our mission to get the best photos of them during a few stops with breathtaking views. We will visit the small town of Machuca, with its adobe houses, a church built in the early 18th century and a concentration of llama, sheep and goat shepherds, who keep the traditions alive. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Wednesday, September 2 – This morning is our final time to enjoy this stunning natural wonder.  In the afternoon, we will transfer from the hotel to the airport of Calama and back to Santiago. Tonight, we will stay at the Holiday Inn – Santiago Airport to make our early morning departure to Patagonia a little easier on the group. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
