General entries can only be purchased directly within a certain time period, that period has passed as they sold out of general entries within 1 day!
MTT is the exclusive official international tour operator, we have a separate supply of foreign athlete entries. We can supply Comrades Race entry as an extra cost to the package to anyone residing outside South Africa.
Can children join our tours?
Children will love the sun, sea and South African experience. Families with children are welcome, however small children might find the tours and race day itself a little restricting and tiring and we would want the runners to arrive at the start line as relaxed as possible. Thanda Safari extension is not permitted for children 6 years and younger. Families with children aged 8 years and above would perhaps benefit the most from our Durban only package, please contact us for availability of rooms and more details.
Why is the accommodation in Durban and not one of the outlying suburbs?
In addition to quality accommodation with exhilarating sea views, Durban is the place to stay leading up to the Comrades Marathon! Home of the Expo and where you can experience the pre-race excitement as throngs of runners fill the city each year and bring the gees (vibe).
Why don’t you offer accommodation in Pietermaritzburg, the night before the Down Run?
From experience we have found it is easier and more economical to stay in Durban and not move hotels mid trip. No matter where you stay it’s an early start. Our intention, which worked incredibly well 2 years ago, will mean that all runners avoid the stress of traffic and road closures. Our clients can sleep onboard if they wish and stay on the coach, in the warm, with toilet facilities until they need to join the race!
Will breakfast be available on race day?
Yes, a grab & go style breakfast will be available on race day for Comrades runners or any supporters who intend to leave the hotel early. Times will be confirmed in the final instructions.
What will the massages cost?
2027 rates are not available yet but for 2026 the costs were;
ZAR 700 for 60 minutes massage
ZAR 500 for 30 minutes compression boots
Bookable and payable directly (cash) – details and appointments will be sent with final instructions.
What can I expect from the sightseeing tour?
After breakfast, depart the hotel at 09:00am for a half-day sightseeing tour of Durban and the beachfront area. Our experienced local guide will show you the must-see places with stops expected to include the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, built for the FIFA World Cup in 2010, the tranquil Durban Botanic Gardens and the bustling Victoria Street Market, known for its fragrant spices and souvenirs. You can expect to hear of the local history, culture and people and experience panoramic city views. Stop for some photo opportunities as we drive by the harbor, beachfront and the many historical buildings of the city of Durban. The tour is designed to allow for a full experience of Durban, in comfort, without much walking!
What is included in the welcome reception?
On Friday, our Welcome Reception will take place. Our expert team will guide you through the weekend’s itinerary, answer any questions you may have and allow you to meet your fellow runners whilst enjoying a delicious buffet dinner. Please note that the dinner venue is not certified Halaal. However, all meats are purchased from a Halaal butcher and pork separation is practiced in the kitchens. Other special dietary requests will be accommodated if they can by Chef, please advise us in advance and we will do our best to arrange.
How do I get to the Expo to collect my race number?
The Comrades Route tour will drop you off at the Expo in Durban on Friday. You can easily walk approx. 20 minutes from the Expo to hotel. Should you wish to visit the Expo at another time you are free to do so, it’s easy to get to on foot or by Uber taxi, which is very economical.
Is the Comrades Route Tour only for runners?
No, all MTT clients booked on a package that includes the tour are welcome. It’s exclusive to MTT. It starts at 7:30am from your hotel and will preview the route while sitting in the comfort of our luxury coach. En-route, we will include stops at Comrades House Museum in Pietermaritzburg, the Wall of Honour and Arthurs Seat. It gives runners who have not seen the route before some valuable race insight, but this is personal choice and by no means obligatory. The tour is expected to finish early afternoon and will be guided by an experienced Comrades finisher and experienced coach.
The tour will finish at the Comrades Marathon Expo so you can pick up your race kits. Lunch can be purchased at the Expo, after which we invite you to shop and enjoy the vibe before making your way back to your hotel (approx. a 20-minute walk).
What is included in the pre-race dinner?
On Saturday, our pre-race dinner will take place. Our expert team will be available to re-cap on the next day’s schedule and answer any questions you may have while you eat a nutritious carbo-loading dinner.
What can I expect on race day morning as a runner?
Breakfast will be available early – expect a Grab & Go Breakfast with all the key elements you would expect for fueling before an ultra-marathon. However, if you have any essential food, please either bring them with you or notify us before the trip and we will do our best to arrange this with the hotel.
Our private luxury coaches (with ‘emergency’ on board toilet) will depart with our runners to the starting area in Pietermaritzburg. This service is only available to runners booked with Marathon Tours & Travel. Coaches will leave before the roads close, leaving at ~2:15am from our hotel and, where possible, will wait near the start area, allowing you to stay warm and comfortable on the coach until you need to join your corrals.
To feel and see the MTT Up Run race experience with MTT we strongly recommend watching this video from Kieran Alger who ran the 2024 Up Run with Marathon Tours & Travel.
Are supporters looked after and included in the activities?
We welcome supporters on our trips, they are included in all the activities, except the run itself and race day transfers. Family/friends make the experience so much more personal for you as the runner and they get to enjoy the sunshine and of course the experience of seeing you accomplish your dream will forever be a memory to cherish.
Is there a service for runners to leave their personal drinks and kit essentials on the Comrades course?
Comrades refreshment tables are very well stacked with refreshments and foods.
What can I expect after I have finished?
All international runners will be given a wristband and an international tog bag sticker with their race number. The wristband must be worn on race day because it allows access to the international area at the finish. The international tog-bag retrieval point is also separate from the local runner’s tog-bag collection point, in recent years it was in the international tent. If you have a non-runner with you on this trip, please request another wristband at the Expo. The International tent at the finish is usually the best spot to see runners and provides seating and refreshments.
The Comrades Marathon 2027 finishes in Durban. After finishing the race, meet the Marathon Tours & Travel team at the International area in Kings Park Stadium, Durban Precinct. Marathon Tours & Travel free shuttle service will operate from 2:30pm until race finish, exclusively for our runners and supporters to transport you back to your hotel in Durban. We understand how tired you will feel after a long time on your feet, meals can be purchased at one of the restaurants or take the opportunity to order room service! Relax, you deserve it.
What can I expect of the after party?
You can expect food, great sea views, lots of laughs and celebrations with your running peers and companions.
What extensions do you offer after Comrades?
After Comrades we suggest you add some extra days to your trip and enjoy a holiday in Africa. It’s such a beautiful Continent to explore. For the safari enthusiasts, we have a 3 night Private Game Reserve package that includes multiple game drives. You can also request extra nights in Durban.
Flights
Flights are not included but clients can be advised as follows.
Comrades Package Only: Clients should plan to fly in and out of Durban King Shaka International Airport (DUR).
Comrades Package with the Post-Race Safari Extension: Clients should plan to fly in and out of Durban King Shaka International Airport (DUR).
How do I receive confirmation of entry?
Runners who purchase entry from MTT will receive a registration link at a later date, much closer to the event. This will be sent with instructions when Comrades Marathon is ready. During the registration process, you will create an account and it’s to this account that you will need to submit your proof of qualifying time and race before the deadline. After you have registered on the Comrades system, you will receive confirmation of registration and subsequent email updates.
All information is subject to change and will be updated and advised with our client’s final itinerary and instructions.

"Cape Town and the Commodore Hotel was very nice..." - 2014Cape Town and the Commodore Hotel was very nice. The staff was pleasant and the location excellent as it was only blocks to the V & A Waterfront, the shops and restaurants. I was able to walk there by myself in the dark, something I couldn’t do in Durban. The tour company was excellent and early for the pickups at the hotel. The full day tour of the Cape was excellent and well worth it, even though we had a lot of distance to travel. It was a good way to see the suburbs of Cape Town. I would recommend it.
"The Comrades Marathon is a very special race..." - 2014The Comrades Marathon is a very special race in a beautiful part of South Africa. I also really enjoyed the Kruger extension. Seeing wildlife in their natural habitat is a once in a lifetime experience.
"I've run harder and more scenic races, but..." - 2014I’ve run harder and more scenic races, but none that had as much wonderful camaraderie among the runners.
"Totally AMAZING..." - 2012Totally AMAZING. The best vacation that I have EVER gone on in my life. Thanda game reserve was top notch. Facility was amazing. The people at the reserve we beyond comparison. Something new everyday. Everything was accessible to folks who had just “smoked” their legs the previous day. My wife and I are considering a return trip to South Africa for the Safari, maybe an up Comrades! Pickup at hotel was right on time and a great discussion during the drive about the history of the region and the Zulu people.
