Itinerary

Friday, August 2 – Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel.  Since most flights arrive in the evening no activities are planned for today.

Saturday, August 3 –  After a leisure breakfast we will depart for a guided tour of the Karen Blixen Museum followed by a relaxing lunch outdoors at the Tamambo Restaurant. Each guest will be responsible for their own meal and beverages.  This evening we will gather for a casual welcome reception in the lobby bar. Enjoy dinner at one of the several hotel restaurants. (breakfast included)

Sunday, August 4 - Early morning transfer via coach for the three-hour road trip to the Aberdare National Park where we will spend two nights at the Aberdare Country Club. On the way we will stop at a curio shop, which we have frequented for many years.  Upon arriving at the Aberdare Country Club, guests will check-in and enjoy a late buffet lunch. Once you are settled in, we will depart for your first game drive as we make our way to the ARK Lodge.  Here you will enjoy the solitude of the bush as you view elephants, hyena, water buffalo and more at their famous watering hole. Following our group dinner we will return to the Aberdare Country Club for our overnight. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Monday, August 5 - After a leisure breakfast, the day is free to enjoy with a few optional activities. All are welcome to participate in a morning or afternoon guided bush walk or run.  You will run/walk among giraffe, impala, zebra and other wildlife within the conservancy. In addition, if you wish, today you can opt for a game drive through Solio Ranch known for its rhino conservation. This game drive is optional and is in addition to your package price. At the end of the day, we will meet at the on-site restaurant for dinner. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Tuesday, August 6 - Today we take the three hour drive to the luxury Sweetwaters Tented Camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy with a stay for three nights. After a stop at the equator for photos, we arrive in time for a late lunch.  The evening is yours to relax at this tented game park community.
(breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Wednesday, August 7 - This morning we will have a game drive through Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a 90 acre reserve that has the densest concentration of animals in Kenya and stop by the Chimpanzee Sanctuary - the only place in Kenya to view this highly intelligent and endangered species. The afternoon is free to enjoy.  Optional activities such as a night game drive - highly recommended - can be arranged at the receptionist desk. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Thursday, August 8 - Enjoy one more day in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.  The morning is free to enjoy your surroundings and after lunch we will regroup for an afternoon game drive.  Before returning to Sweetwaters, we will stop for a short reception at the Morani Restaurant.
(breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Friday, August 9 - Following breakfast, the group will depart Sweetwaters via four-wheel drive vehicles to Kimanjo.  Please note that most of the three-hour drive to Kimanjo is on dirt roads that can be very bumpy.  Before leaving Nanyuki, we will stop at the local grocery store for any items you wish to bring with you to the camp site and to also grab a quick lunch for the road.  In route to the race camp, we will stop at one of the schools where some of the Amazing Girls attend for a meet and greet (subject to change due to school schedule).  Your accommodations for the next two nights will be at a temporary/mobile tented camp site.  Although basic and rustic, we believe you will find these to be comfortable sleeping quarters.  Once you receive your tent assignment, all guests will enjoy their first sundowner at race headquarters. Prior to dinner will be the race briefing by the race director, Michael Hughes.   (breakfast, simple lunch and dinner included)

Saturday, August 10 -  RACE DAY!  The Amazing Maasai Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 10K start at 7:00am. About 400 runners (approx. 90% are Kenyan) will participate in these events. Plan for an early breakfast and then a short jeep ride to the race start.  Lunch will be served back at the tented camp site following the race.  All participants are encouraged to bring snacks/beverages with them that morning.  Although ample water is available on the course, there are not refreshments following the race.  Tonight after a sundowner a the race camp site, the group will enjoy a celebratory dinner.(breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
