Pre-Package: Friday, August 3 – Arrive one day early in Nairobi to adjust to the time change and enjoy the extra time at the beautiful Fairmont Norfolk Hotel.
Saturday, August 4 – Early arrivals can choose to participate in an optional day tour (cost is in addition to the package price) to the Karen Blixen Museum, the Daphne Elephant Orphanage and the Giraffe Sanctuary while exploring a little of Nairobi. A late lunch is on your own at the Karen Blixen Museum. All others will arrive to Nairobi and transfer to the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel. This evening we will gather for a casual non-hosted meet and greet in the lobby bar. (breakfast included for August 3 check-ins)
Sunday, August 5 - Early morning transfer via coach for the three-hour road trip to the Aberdare National Park where we will spend two nights (one at the ARK Lodge and one at the Aberdare Country Club). On the way we will stop at a curio shop, which we have frequented for many years. Upon arriving at the Aberdare Country Club, where the group must check-in, we will enjoy a late lunch. Following will be your first game drive as we make our way to the ARK Lodge! Here you will enjoy the solitude of the bush as you view elephants, hyena, water buffalo and more at their famous watering hole. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Monday, August 6 - After breakfast, depart back to the Aberdare Country Club to spend one more night acclimatizing to the high altitude while enjoying the panoramic views of the valleys below. Today is a perfect day to participate in an optional training run and/or bush walk, which are led by the local guides. You will run/walk among griraffe, Impala, zebra and other wildlife within the conservancy. In addition, if you wish, today you can opt for a game drive through Solio Ranch known for its rhino conservation. This game drive is optional and is in addition to your package price. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Tuesday, August 7 - Today we take the three hour drive to the luxury Sweetwaters Tented Camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy with a stay for three nights. After a stop at the equator for photos, we arrive in time for a late lunch. The evening is yours to relax at this tented game park community.
(breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Wednesday, August 8 - This morning we will have a game drive through Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a 90 acre reserve that has the densest concentration of animals in Kenya and stop by the Chimpanzee Sanctuary - the only place in Kenya to view this highly intelligent and endangered species. Before returning to Sweetwaters, we will stop for a short reception at the Morani Restaurant. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Thursday, August 9 - Enjoy one more day in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Today will be another group activity as well as ample time to enjoy your surroundings on your leisure time.
(breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Friday, August 10 - Following breakfast, the group will depart Sweetwaters via four-wheel drive vehicles to Kimanjo. Please note that most of the three-hour drive to Kimanjo is on dirt roads that can be very bumpy. Before leaving Nanuki, we will stop at the local grocery store for any items you wish to bring with you to the camp site and to also grab a quick lunch for the road. Your accommodations for the next two nights will be at a temporary/mobile tented camp site. Although basic and rustic, we believe you will find these to be comfortable sleeping quarters. Once you receive your tent assignment, all guests will enjoy their first sundowner at race headquarters. Prior to dinner will be the race briefing by the race director, Michael Hughes. (breakfast, simple lunch and dinner included)
Saturday, August 11 - RACE DAY! The Amazing Maasai Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 10K start at 7:00am. About 400 runners (approx. 90% are Kenyan) will participate in these events. Plan for an early breakfast and then a short jeep ride to the race start. Lunch will be served back at the tented camp site following the race. All participants are encouraged to bring snacks/beverages with them that morning. Although ample water is available on the course, there are not refreshments following the race. Tonight after a sundowner with a beautiful view (weather permitting), the group will enjoy a celebratory dinner at the tented camp site. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Sunday, August 12 - After breakfast fly to the Mara to experience Kenya's best safari adventure - the 'great migration' or continue via charter plane to Nairobi Airport for your international flight home.
