Complete your Iceland experience and join the optional two-night extension to Snaefellsnes Peninsula!
Monday, August 20 – Following breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Reykjavik (8:00 a.m.). Expect the drive to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to take approximately three (3) hours. Highlights of today include: an easy climb to the top of Mt. Helgafell, which gives a breathtaking view of the surroundings. The Mountain will also grant you three wishes if you follow the following rules: don’t look backwards, no talking, make sure your head is clear and your heart free of guile. Once you find the ruins (at the end of the path), face east and wish away! This afternoon is a Viking Sushi Boat tour, which sails from Stykkisholmur Town on Breidafjordur Bay. The beautiful bay has numerous skerries (small, rocky islands) with varied bird life and whales. On the tour will be a sampling of scallops, sea urchins, crabs, starfish, and sea cucumbers along with a chilled glass of white wine. The tour will continue with sightseeing in Stykkisholmur where we will stay for the next two nights. This town is one of Iceland´s most picturesque fishing villages with beautiful 19th Century architecture. The town has excellent restaurants, as well as interesting museums and a great outdoor geothermal swimming pool, all within walking distance. (breakfast included)
Tuesday, August 21 - Today we continue our exploration of the beautiful Snaefellsnes Peninsula with a visit to Bjarnarhofn Shark Farm, which is the most famous in Iceland. On the South Shore we will visit various beaches, sometimes favored by seals; walk the scenic trail from Hellnar, the home of Bardur the guardian spirit of Snaefellsnes, to Arnarstapi; and see a variety of geological formations. If the day is clear, we will see the Snaefellsjokull, the glacier at the end of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Return to Stykkisholmur town in the late afternoon. (breakfast included)
