Package One | Thirteen Night Deluxe Package | Beijing, Xi’an, Yangtze River Cruise and Shanghai: May 16 - 29, 2018

Wednesday, May 16 - Arrive in Beijing and transfer to the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel. This evening enjoy a welcome cocktail reception.

Thursday, May 17 - Following breakfast, we will travel to the Great Wall for a mandatory inspection of the on-Wall route. Both runners and spectators will visit the Great Wall and receive race details. All runners must walk the 3.5 km of the wall, which is part of the Great Wall Marathon course.  It is very important to familiarize yourself with that specific section in order to take proper precautions and incorporate it into your race strategy. Non-runners are also welcome to participate in this walk (good physical condition is required for this strenuous walk). (breakfast and lunch included)

Friday, May 18 - This morning you will enjoy a behind-the-scenes view of Hutong, the old city of Beijing. You will travel the ancient alleyways via three-wheeled bicycle rickshaws. We then travel to the Summer Palace for a tour of the man-made lake followed by lunch. We will return to the hotel early enough to allow you rest time before race day.  Tonight we will gather at the hotel for a pre-race pasta dinner. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Saturday, May 19 - Great Wall Marathon and Half-Marathon RACE DAY!  It will be an early morning departure for the Great Wall Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 8.5K fun run.   A boxed breakfast will be provided upon departure and a lunch from Subway is available after the race.  You will also have the opportunity to get at a massage! Tonight, enjoy dinner on your own. (breakfast and lunch included)

Sunday, May 20 - After breakfast we start the day by coach bus to Tiananmen Square, the largest square in the world. We will walk through the square from the south to the north, passing Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum.  Next is the Imperial Palace and the Forbidden City, one of China's architectural masterpieces.  This was forbidden to the common people until the early 1900's. Lunch will follow before returning to the hotel to get ready for the Gala Dinner. (breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Monday, May 21 - After breakfast we will check out of the hotel and transfer to the Beijing Airport for a 90 minute flight to Xi'an. Upon arrival, we will be greeted by an English-speaking local representative who will coordinate the transfer to the hotel.  The group will tour the enormous city wall and then have a guided walking tour through the Muslim quarter of Old Town. This afternoon check-in to the Sofitel on Renmin Square Xi'an Hotel. Please note that lunch today is on the plane. Tonight we enjoy the famous dumplings at Defachang's.  (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Tuesday, May 22 - After breakfast we will visit the famous life-sized Terra Cotta Warriors who have been guarding the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi for 2,000 years and the Horse Museum. After lunch at a local restaurant, we’ll visit Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda located in southern Xi'an. The Tang Dynasty Dinner Show is included this evening. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Wednesday, May 23 - After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Chongqing.  Upon arrival we will have a city-tour and experience the local hot-pot dinner before boarding the luxury river cruise boat, the President No. 7.  (breakfast and dinner included)

Thursday, May 24 - Today you will have an optional shore excursion at Fengdu - the Ghost City known for its gardens, temples and statues of ghosts and devils. In the late afternoon you will have a shore excursion visit to Shibaozhai Paragon, a 12 story wooden pagoda with the top temple first built in 1572 during the Ming Dynasty. It represents one the gems of Chinese architecture along the banks of the Yangtze River. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Friday, May 25  - Today will begin with a journey through the first two of the fabled Three Gorges: the Qutang Gorge and the Wu Gorge. Qutang Gorge is the shortest (five miles), narrowest (500 feet) and most dramatic. The 25-mile long Wu Gorge is known for its quiet beauty, forest-covered mountains, and cliffs so sheer that the sun barely penetrates the precipices. Next travel through the Daning River Small Gorges, which are narrower than the Three Gorges, but still impressive.  We will disembark and cruise along the smaller Shennong Stream in a Sampan. Later in the day we enter the Xiling Gorge, the longest (41 miles) and the deepest of the Three Gorges. In the evening, if possible, we will sail through the Three Gorges Dam ship locks.  Please note that transit of the dam is not always possible. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Saturday, May 26 - Your last day on the river will bring a visit to the Three Gorges Dam site at Sandouping, the largest project of its kind in the world. You will disembark and continue on to lunch and a visit to the bungee jumping platform in Yichang. Next you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the deluxe Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel in the heart of Shanghai. Enjoy dinner on your own this evening. (breakfast and lunch included)

Sunday, May 27 - Today is a leisure day to explore Shanghai on your own.  An optional evening cruise on the Huangpu River is offered for those who are interested ($45.00 per person) (breakfast included)

Monday, May 28 - After breakfast, we will begin the day by visiting the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center.  The Exhibition Center is a six-story building, with two basement levels, which displays Shanghai's urban planning and development.  The focus of the exhibit is a large scale model of urban Shanghai. Other exhibits relate to Shanghai's history and planned development, including smaller scaled models focusing on particular areas of interest such as the Bund.  We then depart for Yu Yuan Garden.  The garden was the template for the "Willow Pattern" English poetry which features the centrally positioned tea house.  Yu Yuan is located in the old part of Shanghai, accessed by a labyrinth of bustling streets.  After a dim sum lunch at a local restaurant, stroll around the famous Bund/Waterfront and venture to the Shanghai Museum.  Located in the People's Square, the museum boasts a staggering collection of more than 120,000 unique ancient Chinese artifacts.  Enjoy a walking tour with your guide through Shanghai's French Concession, also known as French town. Tonight is a Western set menu at the House of Roosevelt, affording a scenic panoramic view of the Bund at night. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Tuesday, May 29 – Following breakfast transfer to the airport for your return flight home. (breakfast included)

Tuesday, May 22 - After breakfast we will check out of the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel and transfer to the Beijing Airport. There will be several scheduled transfers back to the airport starting at 7:00 AM and concluding at 3:00 PM.  You may also elect to extend your time in China! Package Three | Six-Night Beijing Budget​: May 15 - 21, 2018

Tuesday, May 15 - Arrive in Beijing and make your own way to your hotel.  Airport transfers can be arranged in advance ($49).  Upon arrival at the hotel, check the hotel notice board for your tour guide’s name and phone number.  Information packets will be handed out by the guide either today or tomorrow at the Great Wall inspection.  The rest of the day is free to explore Beijing.

Wednesday, May 16 – After breakfast we will depart at 8:30 AM for Tiananmen Square and then the Forbidden City.  Lunch will be a delicious local specialty – Beijing roasted duck. Following lunch the sight-seeing will continue with the beautiful Temple of Heaven and the Silk Exhibition Hall where you can purchase a large variety of silk products.  (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Thursday, May 17 - Following breakfast, we will travel to the Great Wall for a mandatory inspection of the on-Wall route. Both runners and spectators will visit the Great Wall and receive race details. All runners must walk the 3.5 km of the wall, which is part of the Great Wall Marathon course.  It is very important to familiarize yourself with that specific section in order to take proper precautions and incorporate it into your race strategy. Non-runners are also welcome to participate in this walk (good physical condition is required for this strenuous walk). We will return to Beijing around 5:00 PM.  After dinner, enjoy the rest of your evening or attend an optional acrobatics show ($31 per person). (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Friday, May 18 - We start the day with a visit to a cloisonné factory. Cloisonné is an age-old technique for decorating metal objects. At the factory, we will be introduced to the intricate art of making cloisonné. After lunch, we'll head to the Ming Tombs in a valley south of the Tianshou Mountain, about 50KM west of Beijing, where 13 out of 16 Ming Emperors were buried. Load up on your carbs at tonight's dinner with additional rice and noodle dishes. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Saturday, May 19 - Today is the big day! Breakfast boxes will be handed out before we leave for Huangyaguan at 3.30am. The race starts at 7:30am. Sandwich lunches will be provided for everyone after the race as well as an optional 20-minute massage. Buses will take runners back to Beijing between 12:00 PM and 4:30 PM. Enjoy the evening on your own.  (boxed breakfast and sandwich lunch included)

Sunday, May 20 – Today is your recovery day!  Sleep-in, relax or do a bit of shopping in the Silk Alley. Perhaps join an optional excursions: City of People Tour ($59 per person) includes a visit the Beijing Zoo (giant panda exhibit only) Summer Palace and Pearl Exhibition Hall. In the evening, all participants will be picked up at their hotels and taken to the Gala Dinner venue.  (breakfast and dinner included)

Monday, May 21 - Depending on your departure time, you might be able to do some last-minute shopping or take in more of Beijing's sights. Hotel check-out is before noon. Please note that the departure transfer is not included in the package but can be pre-booked at an extra cost of $49. (breakfast)

Package Four | Five-Night Beijing Budget: May 16 - 21, 2018

Wednesday, May 16 - Arrive in Beijing and make your own way to your hotel.  Upon arrival at the hotel, check the hotel notice board for your tour guide’s name and phone number.  Information packets will be handed out by the guide.  The rest of the day is free to explore Beijing.

Thursday, May 17 – Check out and be ready for an early departure (6:45 AM) to the Great Wall for a mandatory inspection of the on-Wall route. Both runners and spectators will visit the Great Wall and receive race details. All runners must walk the 3.5 km of the wall, which is part of the Great Wall Marathon course.  It is very important to familiarize yourself with that specific section in order to take proper precautions and incorporate it into your race strategy. Non-runners are also welcome to participate in this walk (good physical condition is required for this strenuous walk).  After a sandwich lunch we will proceed to Jixian to check into the hotel.  Expect around a 45 minute drive.  The afternoon is free to explore the town.  The group will reconvene for dinner.  (boxed breakfast and lunch included)

Friday, May 18 – Today is a perfect day to relax before the race.  You can enjoy the local atmosphere or book an optional Rural China tour ($92 per person), which takes you on an excursion to an outdoor market and a visit to the Qing Dynasty Tombs.  The tour includes lunch.  Tonight we will gather at the hotel for a pre-race dinner. (breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Saturday, May 19 - RACE DAY.  It will be an early morning departure for the Great Wall Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 8.5K fun run.   Please be sure to check-out of your room before boarding the bus at 5:00 AM.  A boxed breakfast will be provided upon departure and a sandwich lunch is available after the race as well as a 20-minute massage!  Buses will take runners back to Beijing between 12:00 PM and 4:30 PM.  Tonight, enjoy dinner on your own. (breakfast and lunch included)

Sunday, May 20 – Today is your recovery day!  Sleep-in, relax or do a bit of shopping in the Silk Alley. Two optional excursions are available: Beijing Highlights with the City of Emperor Tour ($66 per person) that includes Tiananmen Square/Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven OR visit the Beijing Zoo (giant panda exhibit only) and Summer Palace outside of Beijing with the City of People Tour ($59 per person). In the evening, all participants will be picked up at their hotels and taken to the Gala Dinner venue.  (breakfast and dinner included)
