Safaricom Marathon Itinerary
June 20 - Depart U.S. for overnight flights to London.
June 21 - Depart London at 10:00am on British Airways for day flights to Nairobi. Arrive
Nairobi and transfer to the Norfolk Hotel.
June 22 - Transfer by coach for the 3 hour trip to the newly renovated Aberdare Country Club
nestled in the foothills
of Mt. Kenya near Aberdare National Park. We spend two nights acclimating to
the mile high altitude to prepare you for your event.
June 23 - Time spent here is helpful to acclimatize to the dry, summer
conditions and altitude. The atmosphere here brings you back to the colonial days
of the early 1900s when great white hunters claimed their trophies during the day
and swapped tales in the evening under candlelight in the stone and mahogany bar with a glass of cognac.
You can spend time game viewing, visiting their animal orphanage, horseback riding, trout fishing or simply enjoying the 100 acre resort.
June 24 -
Today we take a full day excursion to the Aberdare National Park to spend one night at the Ark,
the world famous game lodge overlooking
a floodlit waterhole, you can watch elephant, rhino, buffalo,
bushbuck, or an occasional giant forest hog at
close range with the seemingly ever-present hyenas lurking about looking for easy prey.
June 25 - Transfer by vehicle to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy with a brief stop for a
photo opportunity at the equator. Accommodations will be provided
at both Lewa Safari Camp and a temporary deluxe mobile camp. Late afternoon game drive tracking
rhino, Grevy zebra and other wildlife. Lewa boasts of 39 black rhino and 42 white rhino at last count.
With the protection of an armed ranger, we will be allowed to take a run in the bush among the wildlife.
June 26 - Game drives throughout the day. Pre-race pasta party, briefing and race check-in.
June 27 - Safaricom Marathon and Half-Marathon start at about 7:00am. Dinner celebration at the camp.
June 28 - Transfer to airport for return flights to Nairobi and overnight flight to London.
Masai Mara Option:
June 28 - Transfer to the Lewa airstrip for the 50 minute flight to Masai Mara National Park
which is recognized by many experts as offering the world's best game viewing.
Transfer to Governors Camp, a deluxe tented safari camp. After lunch you will enjoy your first
game drive in the Mara.
June 29 - 30 - Three game drives each day seeking a variety of wildlife
depending on their natural movements. You can optionally book a walking
safari on one of the mornings where you will be face-to-face with spectacular wildlife and
learn about the local insects and fauna. You have a choice of two other options. A one-hour
morning hot air ballon ride over the plains is the ultimate way to view the savannahs with an overhead gaze at the game below you.
Or you can board a morning charter for the flight to Lake Victoria where you
can hook a Nile Perch weighing up to 80 kilos or watch the variety of wildlife surrounding
the world's second largest lake.
July 1 - Transfer to the airstrip for the short flight to Nairobi. Checkin for return flights to London.
NOTES: - Itinerary may be changed based on the final number of participants.
- The basic packages include flights from London. Airfare from your U.S. city of origin is additional.
- Deviations from the standard itinerary may increase the airfare substantially
