Arrive Auckland and transfer to the Heritage Hotel for those arriving on the group flights. Check-in time is 2:00pm. If rooms may not be available for immediate access, enjoy a relaxing walk around the scenic waterfront! This evening meet your MT guide and some fellow Auckland travelers at our welcome reception.
Fri, Oct. 30 - Auckland Half-Day City Tour
Enjoy a half-day sightseeing and see first hand why Auckland is known as the City of Sails as you enjoy a trip over the Harbour Bridge. Visit the famous Auckland landmark of Mount Eden, a dormant volcano whose summit offers excellent panoramic views of the city and harbours. From this fantastic vantage point you will see evidence of Auckland's volcanic history, the most significant being the youngest volcano of Rangitoto Island at the entrance to the Waitemata harbour. The sightseeing tour also takes in the Auckland Domain, the city's oldest park which is situated on a 62,000 year old volcano. In addition to these natural features the city sights tour also takes in the trendy shopping area of Parnell Village with its historical buildings that have been transformed into boutiques, antique, craft and specialty shops. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to enjoy!
Sat, Oct 31 - Optional Full Day Tour to Waiheke Island
Explore Auckland on your own or opt to add the full day Waiheke tour to your itinerary. This unique island in the Auckland Harbor offers culture, community, and more. Race check-in is located within walking distance. This evening is our pre-race pasta dinner at the hotel.
Sun, Nov. 1 - Race Day! The start and finish are within walking distance of the hotel. The Marathon Tours Staff will coordinate a celebration location the evening's activities for those with a desire to celebrate over a drink or some fine dining overlooking Auckland's harbor (not included in package pricing).
Mon, Nov. 2 - After breakfast, we transfer to Auckland Airport for international departure flights or the commencement of optional excursions for Queenstown.
Mon, Nov. 2 - Depart Auckland Airport for the 1 hour and 50 minute flight to Queenstown on the South Island known as the "Adventure Capital of the World". At our welcome cocktail reception, you will be introduced to a large variety of activities to help you plan your visit. For those who enjoy the adrenalin rush of adventure activities, you can choose activities such as rafting, bungy jumping, river surfing, parapenting, jet boating, sky diving, hang-gliding and much more.
Or, maybe you are the type of person who prefers slower paced attractions & activities, or family orientated fun, in which case you may like to choose a beautiful lake cruise where you disembark and visit a real New Zealand working sheep station, travelling on the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak, or take a tour to our world famous wineries or local gardens, 4WD tours into the pristine backcountry, a tour to the film locations of Lord of the Rings, take a helicopter or fixed wing flight to Milford Sound or a landing on snow on top of glaciers or mountains, take a gondola ride up Bobs Peak and enjoy the stunning lake & mountain views, have lunch or dinner or do a couple of "runs" on the luge (awesome!), go fishing on our clear, clean rivers and lakes, enjoy the countryside
Tue, Wed, Thurs Nov. 3 - Nov. 5 - You have three days to explore Queenstown located on Lake Wakatipu with the Remarkables towering in the distance. Have you considered a day hike on the Routeburn Track?
Fri, Nov. 6 - After breakfast, you are transferred to the airport for return flights to Auckland. Or perhaps you have planned to extend your stay? We are happy to arrange additional travel around New Zealand or to Australia!
