Auckland Marathon Itinerary

 

ITINERARY

 

Tue, Oct. 28 - Depart San Francisco on Air New Zealand for your overnight flight to Auckland for those on the special group fares.

 

Wed, Oct. 29 - As you cross the International Date Line, you will skip an entire day

 

Thu, Oct. 30 - Arrive Auckland and transfer to the Heritage Hotel for those arriving on the group flights.Enjoy a half-day sightseeing and see first hand why Auckland is known as the City of Sails as you enjoy a trip over the Harbour Bridge. Visit the famous Auckland landmark of Mount Eden, a dormant volcano whose summit offers excellent panoramic views of the city and harbours. From this fantastic vantage point you will see evidence of Auckland's volcanic history, the most significant being the youngest volcano of Rangitoto Island at the entrance to the Waitemata harbour.

 

The sightseeing tour also takes in the Auckland Domain, the city's oldest park which is situated on a 62,000 year old volcano. In addition to these natural features the city sights tour also takes in the trendy shopping area of Parnell Village with its historical buildings that have been transformed into boutiques, antique, craft and specialty shops. Your tour will then take you along the scenic waterfront before returning to downtown Auckland.

Check-in time is 2:00pm and rooms may not be available for immediate access.

 

Fri, Oct. 31 - (Optional day trip to Waiheke) or day at leisure.

 

Sat, Nov. 1 - Explore Auckland on your own. Perhaps join us for a day trip to Waiheke Island (call for details). Race check-in is located within walking distance.

 

Sun, Nov. 2 - Race Day! The start and finish. The Marathon Tours Staff will coordinate the evening's activities for those with a desire to celebrate over a drink or some fine dining overlooking Auckland's harbor.

 

Mon, Nov. 3 -  After breakfast, we transfer to Auckland Airport for international departure flights or the commencement of optional excursions for Queenstown.

 

QUEENSTOWN EXTENSION

 

Mon, Nov. 3 - Depart Auckland Airport for the 1 hour and 50 minute flight to Queenstown on the South Island known as the "Adventure Capital of the World". At our welcome cocktail reception, you will be introduced to a large variety of activties to help you plan your visit.  For those who enjoy the adrenalin rush of adventure activities, you can choose activities such as rafting, bungy jumping, river surfing, parapenting, jet boating, sky diving, hang-gliding and much more. 

 

Or, maybe you are the type of person who prefers slower paced attractions & activities, or family orientated fun, in which case you may like to choose a beautiful lake cruise where you disembark and visit a real New Zealand working sheep station, travelling on the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak, or take a tour to our world famous wineries or local gardens, 4WD tours into the pristine backcountry, a tour to the film locations of Lord of the Rings, take a helicopter or fixed wing flight to Milford Sound or a landing on snow on top of glaciers or mountains, take a gondola ride up Bobs Peak and enjoy the stunning lake & mountain views, have lunch or dinner or do a couple of "runs" on the luge (awesome!), go fishing on our clear, clean rivers and lakes, enjoy the countryside

 

Tue, Wed, Thurs Nov. 4 - Nov. 6 - You have three days to explore Queenstown located on Lake Wakatipu with the Remarkables towering in the distance.  Have you considered a day hike on the Routeburn Track?

  

Fri, Nov. 7 - After breakfast, you are transferred to the airport for return flights to Auckland.  Or perhaps you have planned to extend your stay by booking a 5-day hike on the famous Milford Track or the North Island bicycle touring option from Nov. 7 - 11 (call for details/reservations required).
