EARLY ARRIVAL OPTION FOR ANTASIBE RAIN FOREST EXCURSION - June 2-5

June 2 - Arrive early morning in Antananarivo. Transfer to the 4-star Colbert Hotel for early check-in. Rest until noon. Lunch briefing. About 2:00 p.m. departure for city sightseeing tour with local guide. Dinner on your own.

Overnight: Hotel Colbert

 

June  3 - Depart after breakfast for 3-hour drive over the eastern spine of mountains to Andasibe. Arrive for lunch at Vakona Forest Lodge. Time for a run or hike in the forest. Optional nocturnal hike.

June 4 - Arise very early to hike into the reserve to visit the Indri, the world’s largest lemur. Balance of day for additional walks and a visit to lemur island where friendly lemurs will entertain you and provide great photo opportunities.

June 5 - Drive to Tana airport for flight to Toliara. Arrive about noon. Drive 3 hours through the countryside and past small villages into the central highlands to Isalo.

RACE PACKAGE ITINERARY - June 4-9, 5 nights

 

June  3 - Depart Paris at about 5:00pm for overnight flight to Antananarivo, Madagascar’s capital city.

 

June 4 - Arrive early morning in Antananarivo. Transfer to the 4-star Colbert Hotel for early check-in. Rest until noon. Lunch briefing. About 2:00 p.m. departure for city sightseeing tour with local guide.  Dinner on your own.

June  5 - Transfer after breakfast to the airport for the one hour flight to Toliara. Board vehicles or mini-buses for the 3 1/2 scenic hour to Isalo. Hotel check-in and welcome cocktail reception and orientation briefing.

June 6 - After breakfast, you will meet your guide and drive to the starting trail for a 3-4 hour hike in
Isalo National Park. You will enjoy natural pools, waterfalls and be on constant watch for groups or lemurs. 
Afternoon training run on part of the course with a visit to the village of Bedaba, site of the start and finish.

June 7 - Morning drive into town to have a tour of a sapphire mine provided by a Swiss gemologist. This area produces some of the world's purest sapphires which were first unearthed only 25 years ago. A boom town continues to flourish alongside the mining areas. Afternoon race-check-in.

June 8 - Race Day. The start at 7:00am is a short walk from the Satrana Hotel or a 5 minute drive from other hotels. Post race party with buffet dinner, entertainment and awards.

June 9 - Depart hotel for the return drive to Toliara airport for the flight to Antananarivo. Evening flight departs for Paris.

POST-RACE EXTENSION TO MORONDAVA - June 9-12

 

June 9 -  Morning drive to Toliar for your flight to Morondava on the southeast coast with pristine sandy beaches and the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean.

Meals: breakfast, lunch,

June 10 - Morning drive into the Kirindy Forest home to lemurs and the fosa, Madagascar's only carnivore. We pass through Baobab Valley and small villages on the sandy road.

June 11 - Day free for optional tours or just to sit and relax by the pool, walk the endless miles of beaches or enjoy swimming in the tranquil waters. Perhaps you might enjoy a 2 hour boat trip down the coast to Belo, the country's shipbuilding center where wooden boars are still built by hand.

June 12 - Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Antananarivo. Depart in the evening for overnight flight to Paris.

Satrana Lodge, Isalo - Race headquarters - This 40 bungalow lodge blends into the surrounding rock formations with panoramic views of the valley and mountains to the east. The main lodge offers an excellent restaurant, spacious bar, oversized pool and sunbathing areas, library and TV lounge. Free Wi-fi is provided in the lobby areas

 

Relais de la Reine, Isalo - This unique 4-star property is hidden away off the main road and offers 15 buildings that include 3-4 rooms in each unit. Exteriors are constructed of hand cut granite with intricate stone work. Rooms are beautifully furnished from palissandre (Madagascan mahogany). The main building has a comfortable bar and restaurant and free Wi-fi. Enjoy lovely views from the large pool or schedule treatments in the spa. The course runs past the hotel which is across the road from Isalo National Park where about 16 miles of the marathon will be held.
