Deluxe Marathon Package with Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Chengdu

May 12 (Tu) - Depart U.S. for flight to Beijing.

May 13 (We) - Arrive in Beijing. Transfer to the JW Marriott Hotel Beijing. This evening you will enjoy a welcome cocktail reception.

May 14 (Th) - We travel to the Great Wall for a mandatory inspection of the on-Wall route. Both runners and spectators will visit the Great Wall and all race details will be given at this time. All runners must walk the 3.5 km of the wall that is part of the Great Wall Marathon course, as it is very important to familiarize oneself with that specific section in order to take proper precautions and incorporate that part into the race strategy. Non-runners are also welcome to participate in this walk (good physical condition is required for this strenuous walk). Lunch is included. This evening we enjoy a dumpling dinner followed by the world famous Chinese Acrobatic Show. (B,L,D)
May 15 (Fr)  - This morning you will enjoy a behind-the-scenes view of Hutong, the old city of Beijing.  You will travel the ancient alleyways via  3-wheeled bicycle rickshaws. This will be followed by a stop at the Olympic Village.  (Optional entry to the Bird's Nest or Water Cube is addtional) We return back ot the hotel early today to allow you to rest before the big race day.  We gather tonight at the hotel for a pre-race pasta dinner. May 16 (Sa) - RACE DAY. Early morning departure for the Great Wall International Marathon, Half-Marathon, 7.5K fun run. Time to experience the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of running on the world famous Great Wall of China. A boxed lunch will be provided after the race and massage is available as well. Dinner is on your own. (B,L)

May 17 (Su) - After breakfast we will to the Summer Palace.  Here we can view the most well preserved royal park in China as well as the Marble Boat and Seventeen Arch Bridge. Lunch at a local restaurant.  Tonight we celebrate your accomplishment of running on the Great Wall at the Gala Dinner Celebration.  (B,L,D)

May 18 (Mo) - After breakfast we start the day by motorcoach to Tiananmen Square, the largest square in the world. We will walk through the square from south the north, passing Chairman Maos Mausoleum.  We will then entter the Imperial Palace and the Forbiden City, one of China's architectual masterpieces which were forbidden to the common people until the early 1900's. We then stop to the Temple of Heaven where the emperors of the Ming and Ching dynasties prayed to heaven for a good harvest and good luck.  The visit is about 90 minutes followed by a visit to a visit to a tea house where you will experience a tradtional, Chinese tea ceremony.  Lunch is to follow. We will conclude our evening with a hosted Peking Duck Dinner banquet for our farewell dinner.  (B,L,D)
May 19 (Tu) - After breakfast this morning we check out of the hotel and board our 90 minute flight to Xian. Tour the enormous city walls,sensing the immense scale and enduring impregnability, and then guided walk through the Muslim quarter of the Old Town and the local market. This afternoon we check into the Sofitel on Renmin Square Xi'an. Dumpling dinner at famous Defachang's. (B, D)
May 20 (We) - After breakfast, we will visit the famous life-sized Terra Cotta Warriors who have been guarding the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi for 2,000 years and the Horse Museum. After lunch we will continue to tour Terra Cotta Horses.  we will visit the Big Wild Good Pagoda on our way back to the hotel.  Local dinner show is included this evening. (B,L,DS)
May 21 (Thurs) - Morning at leisure.  Departure transfer to airport for flight to Guilin.  Upon arrival in Guilin, a cordial welcome from our English speaking local guide who corrdinates your ride to the hotel, Shangri La Guilin.  This afternoon, we visit The Reed Flute Caves, who got its name from the type of reed growing outside, which can be made into melodious flutes.  Reed Flute Cave is filled with a large number of stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations inweird and wonderful shapes.  Buffet dinner included in the hotel tonight. May 22 (Fri) - After breakfast, we take a morning cruise trip on Li River with buffet lunch on board, and enjoy a panorama of bamboo grooves, sleepy villages and karst peaks of limestone formations fancifully christened by painters and poets over the centuries.  The trip will you to Yangshou in the early afternoon, check-in and drop your luggage at the Yangshou Green Lotus Hotel before veturing to West Street.   West Street is full of character being comprised of numerous arts and crafts stores, book and painting stores, inns, coffee shops, bars, and Chinese martial clubs.  Themn, bamboo rafting along the Yulong River, a tributary of the Li River.  Along the way, in a series of picture perfect moments, you may spy water buffalos wandering the shores, terraced rice fields, countless caves, farmers and fishermen at work, and dramatic limetsone mountain peaks in the distance.  After dinner tonight at the the Master Beer Fish Restaurant on West Street, we will enjoy the "Impression Liu San Jie" light show.  The show, by the famed film director, Zhang Yimou, takes place in the great outdoors and includes more than 600 actors from local groups who combine the natural enviornment with classic folk songs and the reenactment of the area's unique fishing culture. May 23 (Sat) - After breakfast, we take a morning walk or bicycyle tour to the local villages.  After lunch at a local restaurant, drive back to Guilin for our flight to Chengdu.  Upon arrival in Chengdu, a cordial welcome from our English speaking local guide who corrdinates your ride to the hotel, Ritz Carlton Chengdu.  Buffet dinner included tonight at the hotel. May 24 (Sun) - Today's adventure starts after breakfast and brings you face to face with the fascinating giant panda.  We drive to Ya'an, to the Bifengxia Giant Panda Natural Preserve, internationally known for its superb work with these rare animals.  The Base is located in a stunning mountain region whose climate is perfect for the growth of bamboo, the panda's primary food source.  Opened in 2002, the center focuses on panda breeding, the raising on cubs, and training the animals for release into their wild and natural habitat.  Kids and adults alike will love the chance for close-up interaction.   After lunch at the Bifengxia Lodge, we drive back to Chengdu.  Here you can stroll through the Wide and Narrow Alleys, filled with teahouses, shops, and bars filled with a lively atmosphere and searing Sichuan cuisine. May 25 (Mon) - After breakfast, we have a morning visit to the Chengdu Panda Reserve.  Explore the habitat of the giant panda and visit the research and breeding centers. The research center covers an area of 92 acres.  Giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white storks, and 20 species of rare animals are fed and bred here throughout the year.  Perhaps for those lucky few, actually hold a baby panda (addtional fee).  Lunch at local restaurant before checking out of the hotel for flight back to Beijing.  Upon arrival in Beijing  a cordial welcome from our English speaking local guide who corrdinates your ride to the hotel, the Hilton Beijing Capital Airport Hotel. May 26 (Tue) - Say goodbye to China as you will be transferred to the aiport for your flight home. (B)
