Marathon Tours and Travel is constantly looking to discover interesting destinations one mile at a time. Surprisingly, we have never offered a running event in Central America until 2009. We are pleased to announce that we have overcome that oversight and are proud to offer our second trip to the Tamarindo Beach Marathon, 30K, Half-Marathon and 10K events in Costa Rica on Saturday, September 11, 2010.  Costa Rica offers plenty of exciting activities, especially if you're interested in eco-tourism and outdoor sports. In the past decade, the number of visitors to Costa Rica has quintupled, and tourism has become the leading sector of the nation's economy. Costa Rica is practically synonymous with ecotourism—travel that incorporates education about the environment and promotes preservation of natural resources. The country has a large number of national parks and nature preserves that boast a rich array of birds, mammals, reptiles and rain-forest plants. The variety of birds, in particular, is astounding: Some 850 species are packed into a relatively small area. Approximately 25% of the country's land has been set aside in protected areas, earning Costa Rica a reputation as an environmentally-sensitive destination. We are offering a choice of itineraries and accommodations surrounding the marathon. We will have a four-night package in Tamarindo at the all-inclusive, Barcelo Langosta Beach Resort. We do suggest adding our five-night extension package after the marathon to explore the rainforest, visit the Arenal Volcano National Park, relax in a hot springs and experience a zip line canopy adventure.
